International Quality Crown Platinum Award (London 2008)

Vibrancy & Vision Light the Path for Hungry Caterpillar
Pre-school’s Second International Award.

In November 2008 company representatives from 53 countries converged on Guoman Tower's Convention Hall in London, host city of the International Quality Crown Awards organized by the prestigious international quality endorsement organisation, Business Initiative Directions (B.I.D.). Proudly representing Singapore was a stellar educational institution that is securing Singapore's place on the world map for preschool education, Hungry Caterpillar Preschool Academy.

It was the second consecutive year that Hungry Caterpillar Preschool Centre found itself centrestage. In Moscow one year earlier, the same institution received the Gold International Star for Leadership in Quality.

Business Initiative Directions is an international and world-renowned organization that recognizes business leaders in quality and excellence. It scours the world annually in search of companies that exemplify excellence in every aspect of their operations, from innovative business concepts to management practices and customer service. The one company in Singapore that was singled out to receive this honour, Hungry Caterpillar impressed the judges with its combination of innovative teaching methodology based on the internationally acclaimed Project Approach, quality human resources, learning friendly custom designed environment, vibrant marketing, merchandising, and ambitious expansion programme in the region.

Hungry Caterpillar found itself in the illustrious company of award recipients from a diverse range of sectors and nations, including Lebanese Canadian Bank S.A.L., Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), Gulf Insurance Company - the largest insurance company in Kuwait, RAO United Energy System of Russia and Silkway Airlines, among a select handful of others. In the education sector, Hungry Caterpillar was one of only four companies in the world to be honoured.

All of these companies displayed a vibrant strength and vision that will light a torch for generations to come. The International Crown Quality Award received by each of them is a symbol of quality consciousness and business excellence. It raises the profiles of its recipients in the international business community, and puts them in a highly favourable position to respond to emerging global business opportunities.

Receiving the International Crown Quality Award on behalf of Hungry Caterpillar, Mr Samuel Wong reiterated the importance of a quality preschool education as the platform for a good education. While not discounting the importance of primary, secondary and tertiary education, he said:

"A good preschool education will help a child acknowledge and anticipate the exciting learning journey that lies ahead.

"It will help a child value social interaction with his peers from all walks of life, rather than shunning them for their differences.

"It will help a child discover, explore and joyously apply his or her intelligences and talents, just as an artist manipulates a whole spectrum of colours on his canvas."

Picking up on the vibrant imagery coined by Mr Wong in his acceptance speech, the future looks bright indeed not only for the students of Hungry Caterpillar but for all stakeholders. Part of a rapidly growing international enterprise known as Learning Cocoon International, the Group is finalizing plans to launch exciting new ventures in related areas of children's education.

The educational fraternities of Singapore, the region and the world - and no doubt the international business quality arbiters of Business Initiative Directions - will be eagerly anticipating the next chapter of Hungry Caterpillar.
